30 Years Ago Today January 27, 1984 – Michael Jackson’s Hair Caught Fire

Thirty years ago today on January 27, 1984 I’m sure many things happened in both the real world and in pop culture but probably none bigger than Michael Jackson’s hair catching fire during a Pepsi commercial shoot.

At the time, Jackson was between ‘Thriller’s reign and ‘Bad’ in production. Michael Jackson was at the top of his career, there was no need to raise his profile but all the same, he endorsed Pepsi and was in the Shrine Auditorium when the pyrotechnics went awry.
