After premiering the song on ‘The Voice‘ Monday night (Nov. 27), 50 Cent premiered his new video for ‘My Life’ on MTV. The song features Adam Levine singing the hook and a guest verse from his buddy Eminem.
Directed by Rich Lee, the clip features Fiddy, Em and Levine on the run from national security agents who have them under surveillance. It’s kind of like that Will Smith movie, ‘Enemy of the State,’ but with a funky hip-hop beat as its soundtrack.
The song, produced by the Symbolyc One, featuring the classic sampled drum break of the 1973 record ‘Synthetic Substitution’ by the late Melvin Bliss. Most recently, Kanye West sampled the beat for Pusha T‘s street banger ‘New God Flow.’
On the track, 50 Cent reflects on his struggles of trying to regain his footing in the rap game but vows to climb his way back to the top. “I’m far from perfect, there’s so many lessons I done learned / If money is evil look at all the evil I done earned / I’m doing what I’m supposed to, I’m a writer, I’m a fighter / Entrepreneur fresh out the sewer, watch me maneuver,” he raps.
Eminem follows with his diabolical rhymes warning naysayers to not get in his way or he’ll pluck their eyeballs out. “I done put my blood, my sweat and my tears in this s— / F— letting up, you’re gonna end up regretting you ever betted against me,” he spits.
After premiering the video, 50 announced on Twitter that his oft-delayed fifth album, Street King Immortal,’ will hit stores on Feb. 26. The LP went through a variety of setbacks before releasing the singles, ‘New Day’ and the Too $hort-assisted ‘First Date.’
