Growing up in Northern Maine my family had a small farm.  In addition to trucking, my father grew potatoes and peas.  While I never went into the business, I have a great respect for farmers.  That is one of the reasons I am so excited about this new Lincoln Elementary School program.

According to WABI TV, teachers at Lincoln Elementary School in Augusta started a new garden club called the “Sprout Scouts”.  The goal is to promote gardening and healthy eating.

They have planted a garden at the school and plan to add additional crops in the near future.  They also have regular visits from agriculture experts.  Earlier this week, people from the Sparrow Family Farm in Pittston stopped by to teach the kids about cranberry farming in Maine.
