This is sort of a journal type post but this morning at about 4 am I woke up out of sound sleep and yelled loud enough to wake up Lynn, “I smell smoke!” It really scared me especially where we have three kids in the house.

Lynn and I walked through the house and then went to the back yard. As it turns out it wasn’t from our house, thank goodness! To this moment as I write this I have no idea where it came from. Maybe it was what was still in the air from Turner from the fire on Rt 4? Maybe it was still wafting in from the west coast? I have no idea as there was no news of a fire reported in the area (except for the one that happened in Turner the day before). We have a fan in the window and the smell came in by force. Most of the house smelled fine but outside it smelled like a fire was happening somewhere.

We do have an escape plan, the boys are to go out their windows and as safely as possible hang from the eaves and drop to the grass below and we are to get Vikki out either by the window from the outside or get her and jump out her window.

Our smoke detectors work, nobody smokes inside and we do our best to not leave electrical devices on at night or lights on in the basement.

Fire is one of the things that keep me up at night. I just hope we never have to deal with it first hand especially at night but last night I was scared.
