After 27-year-old Sadak Kariye of Lewiston crashed his car into a Topsham gully on Sunday morning, he knew help wasn't nearby. He began crawling up the embankment toward the road.

Police estimate it took Kariye about 3 hours to crawl from his car to the side of Route 196, the Lewiston Road, where an off-duty police officer spotted him, on the ground and bleeding.

He was taken to the hospital and his injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
