There is going to be an Evening of Bluegrass on May 4th at the Messalonskee Performing Arts Center. Good music for a good cause. It is to benefit the Messalonskee Music Program.

Music in our schools is a good thing. I was reading that school with music programs have significantly higher graduation rate.  A quality music program helps to increase english and math scores on standardized test and higher SAT scores.  There are also lower incidents of lifetime and current drug and alcohol abuse for students who take part in band or orchestra.

Those are just some of the benefits. So, it may not seem at first glance that music is important in schools, that is some sort of 'extra'. Clearly, it goes way beyond 'just music. Keeping music in the schools is a cost effective way to offer music lessons to more kids, kids who otherwise, might not be able to afford lessons.
