Apparently, Superman, Spider-Man and various other superheroes aren't the only comic-book characters whose lives are disposable. Archie, the redheaded perennial teen, will meet his end in an upcoming story.

But don't get too worked up over this news. Just like all those superhero storylines, which often find ways to keep their main characters well alive after their apparent deaths, there's a little bit of trickery going on here.

Archie will die in issue No. 36 of 'Life With Archie,' a series that fast-forwards into the future and looks at different scenarios for the Riverdale teen. With the issue that hits stands on July 16, the redheaded dude will pass away after sacrificing his life for a friend. He's survived by two girlfriends (one blonde, one brunette) and two lifelong pals: a smug smartass and a food-obsessed dumbass.

The character of Archie has been around since 1941, and through the years his adventures have led to encounters with everyone from Kiss to zombies. Unfortunately, it appears that the latter have nothing do with his upcoming death.

Even though Archie Andrews will die in the 'Life With Archie' series, there's still a ton of other Archie comics out there in which he'll be alive and kicking it with Jughead and the gang in that ancient jalopy of his.
