Is denim singing the blues? (Get it? Denim. Blue.) Those in the know say jean sales have fallen 6 % in the past year. This comes after decades of almost steady growth. Ouch. More and more of us are wearing yoga pants and leggings instead of traditional denim. Sales of those other items have climbed 7% to $33.6 billion. Levi Strauss, which invented the first pair of blue jeans 141 years ago, is among jean makers that acknowledge their business has been hurt. That's led them to create new versions of classic denim that are more "stretchy" and mimic the comfort of sweatpants.I must say I am really looking forward to checking their take on jeggings!
