State Police, working with the Kennebec Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, arrested a New York man this afternoon (Dec. 29) and charged him with murder in connection with the Christmas morning shooting deaths of a young Augusta couple.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland,  David W. Marble Jr., 29, of  Rochester, NY, was arrested after a car he was a passenger in was stopped by Augusta Police near the State Street rotary in Augusta. Marble is charged with the deaths of Eric Williams and Bonnie Royer, who were shot inside their SUV along Sanford Road in Manchester.

Marble was taken to the State Police offices on Hospital Street for questioning and is charged with two counts of murder, McCausland said. Detectives said the shootings were drug related.

According to McCausland, Marble has recently been living in an apartment house at 28 Sewall Street. Earlier today, the Maine Attorney General’s Office authorized the arrest warrants for Marble, who was transported to the Kennebec County Jail . He is likely to make his first court appearance either Wednesday or Thursday in Augusta.
