An early morning fire at an apartment house in Augusta has injured seven people. The fire started around 2 a.m. and Augusta Fire Chief Roger Audette told WCSH, that a 'portion of the four-story apartment building later collapsed.

Seven residents were taken to Maine General Hospital with injures that are described as minor and smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is not known.

As of 7 a.m. the Fire Department were still on the scene and the Augusta Police have closed part of the road. The fire was near the bottom of the Sand Hill area and across from Mill Park.
