Friday (Dec. 5) morning a fire at an 18-unit apartment building on Northern Avenue in Augusta left 7 injured and 27 homeless.

They need our help. You can make a monetary donation by writing a check payable to the United Way of Kennebec Valley. Include the note: 'Northern Ave Fire victims fund.' Checks can be mailed or dropped off at the United Way of Kennebec Valley, 121 Commercial St, Augusta. A gofundme site has also been set up to take credit card donations.

The donations of used goods and clothing have already flooded in. However, these people need money to cover extended temporary shelter and costs associated with securing permanent housing.

Heather Pouliot from the United Way of Kennebec Valley joined us on the Moose Morning Show (Dec. 8) encouraging donations to the fund that will help the displaced directly. Funds will be managed by United Way of Kennebec Valley and a committee which includes The American Red Cross of Maine.

Also, Amanda Bartlett from the Augusta Housing Authority talked of the need for immediate housing and the housing fair at Gilbert Elementary today. All the details in interview below.
