And Augusta man has been arrested following a high speed chase up the I-95.

According to the KJ, yesterday 36 year old Buddy Burton was arrested and charged on 9 counts following a chase that ended in a crash on the I-95 near Waterville.

According to members of the Maine State Police, law enforcement was chasing Burton after employees at the Wal-Mart in Palmyra reported seeing him steal items.  He is suspected of stealing several items in the same way on March 20th.

After leaving the store, Burton got on the Interstate and headed South.  According to law enforcement, he was driving erratically and occasionally reached speeds of 100 MPH.  After hitting several sets of deflation spikes laid down by Maine State Police, the Jeep he was driving veered off the road and into a ditch.

Complaining of pain, he was taken to Maine General Medical Center.  Following his release, he was taken to the Somerset County Jail.

In addition to charges of theft, Burton charges include operating after a suspension, eluding a police officer, driving to endanger, criminal speeding, failure to submit to arrest.
