Maine's new law allows law-abiding citizens to conceal a handgun without applying for a state permit. It also does not require that you go through any type of mandatory training. That doesn't mean that going out armed with a gun is a good idea if you're not armed, first, with good information.
Whether you are a fan of firearms or not, tomorrow (Thursday, 10/15) is an important day. It's the day that Maine Constitutional Carry becomes law. That means no permit and no training will be necessary in order to carry a concealed handgun. Open carry (visible to everyone) has always been the law.
You would think a gun had two legs, killed instinct and a mind of its own the way people, because some folks just freak out when they see one. This is the sad, in my humble opinion, because I see them as a tool I will (most likely) never need. But some people are so fearful, for whatever reason, that their judgment is skewed.
