Last year was a mild winter, this winter has been colder and has seen much more snow. That means we are spending more to keep the house warm. Families in Maine that rely on heating assistance are receiving less assistance than last year, due in part to, the mild winter we had last year.  That is causing a problem.

Mainers Will Not Have to Show I.D. to Use Food Stamps Card

Mainers who use food stamp benefits cards will not have to show photo IDs when they buy groceries. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said “no" a request by Gov. Paul LePage's administration to require photo ID.  The Department of Agriculture said that would infringe on card holders' rights and would not fight fraud.

Sundays are the best. I get to sleep in later and I get my free Sunday coffee with my Dunkin’ Donuts Community Mug.  Why, yes, I said free! I am a college student, what they call an “adult learner”.  I am more “adult” than some in my program, less “adult” than others.  By “adult” I mean…old.  I have been doing since fall of 2008.  This May I am due to graduate from Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield. Bill Would Ban Hand Held Cells While Driving

There is a new bill that would expand Maine's distracted driving laws by banning the use of hand-held cellphones while driving. To me, the surprising part was the bill had little opposition at a public hearing. The bill is written with a bunch of exemptions, like police. Maybe too many exemptions.
