Andrew Day was visiting his parents in Bangor when he spotted something strange.  At first, he thought it was a large ball of fur tumbling down the street or a VERY large squirrel.  It turned out to be a group of 4 baby squirrels tied together by their tails.  Since being stuck together made a very easy target for predators, Andrew and his dad stepped in to help.

According to WGME, the squirrels were trying to reach an adult squirrel high in a tree (probably, their mother).  Several times, they would get part way up the tree, but fall back down.

Unable to get a hold of animal control, and with the nearest game wardens an hour away, they took matters into their own hands.  The scooped the tangle of babies into a cardboard box (using a rake) and carefully untangled the squirrel's tails.  It took them over an hour, but they did it.  At the suggestion of game wardens, the released the squirrels at the base of the tree.  Each of the four skittered up the tree to rejoin their mother.

Obviously, if you can avoid it, you should never approach wild animals!  But, kudos to Andrew and his father for what they did for those baby squirrels.
