According to the Bangor Daily News, officials at the U.S. Mint have announced Belfast artist Gary Cooper's design will be featured on a new coin commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.

The image chosen is of Neil Armstrong's boot in the lunar dust.

There'll be four different versions of the coin,  a half dollar coin, a 5 ounce $1 silver proof coin, a standard-size $1 silver coin, and a $5 gold coin.

In addition to having his artwork grace thousands of coins, Cooper will also get $5,500 for the use of his artwork.

For him, it is the culmination of two decades of work.  He's submitted coin designs before, including the Sacagewea dollar and Maine State Quarter.  Until now, none had been chosen.

The first coins will go on sale at noon on January 24th, 2019.
