Best + Worst Dressed of the Week: Nicole Kidman Blows Us Away in Blue, Rosario Dawson Is a Mess in Black

There were plenty of pretty and well-dressed ladies in our sights this week, especially since the SAG Awards took place in Hollywood last Sunday (Jan. 27.). Several of the actresses and celebs wowed us — hello, Nicole Kidman, blowing us away in blue Vivienne Westwood as the best-dressed of the night.

Then there were some clunkers in other parts of the world that really had us wondering. Like was Rosario Dawson trying to keep warm with extra accessories and baggy, shiny fabric?

Here’s our best and worst of the week.

The Best

The aforementioned Kidman tops the list in a straight lacy midnight-blue Westwood gown with a dangerously high slit and scalloped edges. She’s tall, so the length was extra flattering. The stick-straight, shoulder-skimming blonde hair was chic and sleek, too.

Taylor Swift also impressed us at last week’s NRJ Awards in Cannes, France. She has really abandoned her dowdy “I wanna be a Kennedy” First-Lady-in-Waiting looks, trading them in for sexy, short frocks that show off her model’s height and her stems.

This gold Elie Saab number may have had long sleeves that covered up her arms, but she showed serious skin. The neckline plunged and she paired the dress with always-sexy Jimmy Choos. That, along with her straight hair and bangs, showed us Taylor the Glamazon.

The Worst

Normally, gifted actress Cate Blanchett always looks good, thanks to her peaches and cream glow. But this red gown she wore to the AACTA Awards was baffling.

The shiny material of the Giorgio Armani Prive dress was a bit too young and “exotic dancer” for her, even though the black piping gave it some pizzazz. The neckline showed off her incredible rack, but the statement shoulders and the flipped hem were futuristic and unflattering. Was she trying out for a role and going that extra mile by showing she can be fashion-forward?

Diane Kruger is always a style trendsetter but fell a few rungs down the ladder in this outfit, which she wore to a event in Berlin. While she mixed styles — a black menswear vest and print, floral pants — it was very ’80s. Print bottoms always scream LOOK AT ME I’M LOUD, especially on short or petite girls. Not her best effort, by any means.

We saved the worst for last: Rosario Dawson in a black sack at an event in Germany. The gloves are overkill. Maybe it was cold? They just didn’t work with her messy dress, which had a high slit and a bow sash. This needed to be streamlined. It’s too much of a bad thing.

It’s a shame — she’s gorgeous, but there’s too much bulk at the midriff and the loose, sloppy way the dress fit was awful. We expect a full rebound from her, and soon.
