On this day back in 1985, Bobby Brown, troubled singer and widower to Whitney Houston, announced he was leaving New Edition. New Edition was the first boy band I remember as a kid. With Bobby Brown, New Edition had hits with “Mr. Telephone Man” “Cool it Now” and “Candy Girl”.  After Brown’s departure, “If It Isn’t Love” was probably their biggest song, but Bobby Brown’s solo career took off with songs like “My Prerogative” and “Every Little Step.”

Here are a few videos of both New Edition and Bobby Brown’s music before Brown became the tabloid fodder we know today.
