The cast and creators of FOX's long-running procedural 'Bones' proved surprisingly liberal with spoilers for the coming season at Comic-Con 2013, but it seems the David Boreanaz/Emily Deschanel-fronted drama had a few more surprises to dig up. Freddie Prinze Jr. will make a guest appearance on the show in the coming season, with a connection to Seeley Booth that may keep him coming back for additional episodes.

According to TVLine, Prinze will first appear in the September 16 premiere episode "The Secret in the Proposal" as Danny, a dangerous covert CIA agent and old associate of Booth's who has an interest in Booth and Bones' current murder investigation. Prinze is currently scheduled for one episode, but the appearance has the possibility to spark a recurring role.

Among the other details of 'Bones' upcoming season revealed at Comic-Con, executive producer Hart Hanson definitively confirmed that the central couple will finally tie the knot this year, and that current series villain Pelant will most likely die before season's end. The show is also busy casting the role of an ex-priest from Booth’s Rangers days, among other recurring figures for the ninth season.

Naturally, the 'Buffy' fans in us can't help wondering if Prinze's guest star could one day bring Sarah Michelle Gellar, but what say you? Are you excited to dig back in the dirt for 'Bones' season 9? Watch the Comic-Con panel below, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
