It's official! Bradley Cooper, star of 'The Hangover' films and 'Silver Linings Playbook,' has been cast as the voice of Rocket Racoon in the upcoming movie 'Guardians of the Galaxy.'

The only missing piece at this point seems to be if Vin Diesel will sign on as Groot, but now 'Guardians of the Galaxy' has something it had been missing up until this point: A star. Marvel confirmed this news today, which had been the rumor for the last week.

As we've said before, the main value of Cooper in the movie is that he's probably the most famous cast member (at least until Diesel signs the dotted line), and the idea of Cooper as a psychotic killer raccoon could make for some great trailer moments. As they have already started shooting (and likely done tons of animatic work on the character), it's unlikely (but not impossible) that Cooper will have to don a motion capture suit for the film, but seeing him running around in green spandex acting like a raccoon would make for a great moment in a behind the scenes featurette.

Cooper joins Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista as one of the five core Guardians, with the film also featuring Glenn Close, Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro and Djimon Hounsou. Shooting is currently under way, with James Gunn directing. 'Guardians of the Galaxy' opens August 1, 2014.
