The Maine State Police have charged a Brewer man with sexual abuse of a young girl and are also investigating him for child pornography.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, investigators with the Computer Crimes Unit arrested Ronald Boersma, 37, at his home at 27 Glenwood Ave. in Brewer Thursday afternoon (March 17).

McCausland said Boersma was charged with unlawful sexual contact with a minor and was taken to the Penobscot County Jail. The arrest came a day after his computer was seized from his home. According to McCausland, investigators say they found child pornography on the computer, but they plan to do further analysis before lodging additional charges. It also is not known if any images of his victim were also on his computer.

McCausland said Boersma is employed at a local bakery and is a convicted sex offender. He also was convicted of possessing child porn in 2003 during court martial proceedings while serving in the Navy out of state.
