Paul Cowing, of Palermo, built my house 15 years ago and has built many since. This Saturday, he carved me a new a-hole (that's "attic")! He builds with precision criteria, all stored in his head, and he remembers. So it was no surprise that, when he came to my house Saturday, he knew exactly where to make the hole, how big and what the obstacles would be. He was spot on!

Basically, I'm tellin' ya, Paul's the absolute BEST in the business. I love this man...as a carpenter and as a friend. I've gotten to know him, his wife, Peggy, and the whole family, over the years.

So anyway, Paul cuts this hole in my closet ceiling with the precision of a surgeon and, because there's a power cable in the middle of the opening, which he expected, he had to jerry-rig a way to install the door. Without going into specifics, let me say it was (nearly) flawless. Did I tell you I love this guy?

So, after cutting the hole, installing the door and putting down plywood, so we don't step through the ceiling, we have an attic, which we never had. The reason? The house was built to preserve heat more than it was for storage so the insulation was thick. What it'll cost us in heat, however, I (think) we'll more than make up for in storage costs. Plus, we won't have to drive 4 miles to get something we "think" is in the self storage unit.

There's self-storage and self-sufficiency. We're moving from the former to the latter and my wife and I couldn't be happier!

In closing, do you know anybody who wants to by some vinyl records? I have some for sale!
