Believe it or not there are benefits to the cold weather. Not just the skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing but there are some health benefits as well.

First and foremost with the extreme cold, come fewer bugs the following summer, like ticks and mosquitoes. We are more likely to reconnect with friends over the phone because it's too cold to go out. We also burning calories because our bodies are working harder to keep warm. Shivering equals exercise, I guess is the idea.

Cold weather also helps your body fight inflammation. Maybe most interesting of all; studies show that cold weather increases the life span in mice and worms. Mice can live up to 20% longer when the core body temperature is reduced.

No word whether the same results happen with humans, tests need to be done but Shawn XU the author of a study at the University of Michigan isn’t ruling it out.
