Captain Malcolm Reynolds, meet Captain Max Richards!  For the past few weeks we'd been hearing about an upcoming episode of 'Castle' season 5 that would likely see the show's most extensive 'Firefly' referencing to date, albeit in a meta way that involves a sort of stand-in for the classic sci-fi show.  We'd also heard that the show's Captain bears more than a passing similarity to the real-life Nathan Fillion, so who's ready to meet 'Eureka's Ed Quinn as Captain Reynolds Richards?

Things are about to get all kinds of meta for 'Castle' season 5, as the series heads into "The Final Frontier" with an episode based around a murder at a Comic-Con-style convention.  Principally involved in that murder is actor Gabriel Winters (Quinn), most famous for his role as Captain Max Richards of the now-cancelled sci-fi series 'Nebula 9!'

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we've learned the former 'Eureka' star will take hte role in the season's seventh episode, to be helmed by 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' star and guest-director Jonathan Frakes.  And given how much fun both Fillion and Frakes like to have with their respective past works, expect plenty of 'Firefly' and other 'sci-fi' references to abound.

Quinn joins several recognizable stars to be featured in the fifth season of 'Castle,' debuting Monday September 24, including ‘30 Rock‘ star Kevin Brown for a ‘Storage Wars’ -type episode, and former ‘Heroes’ and ‘The Office‘ star Jack Coleman as a recurring senatorial antagonist for Beckett. Coleman’s character may or may not have ties to the man who attempted to kill her, Cole Maddox (‘Battlestar Galactica’s’ Tahmoh Penikett).

Well, what say you?  Does 'Eureka's Ed Quinn have what it takes to don the iconic brown coat of Captain Max Richards?  What other 'Firefly' references would you like to see?  Sound off in the comments!
