A man who broke into his ex-girlfriend's home, fatally shot her while her children slept and then spent more than two months hiding in the woods has turned himself in. Robert Burton surrendered yesterday in Dover-Foxcroft, ending the longest manhunt in decades in Maine. He's accused of killing 37-year-old Stephanie Ginn Gebo in Parkman on June 5th. (AP)

Augusta police are looking for your help in finding the robbers who held up Grondin’s Certified Cleaners on Chapel Street yesterday morning. The woman was in her early 20s, about 5 feet 1, with long, straight, black hair and wore a blue hoodie and blue jeans. The man, also in his 20s, was about 5 feet 8 wearing a brown, short-sleeve, button-up shirt and tan cargo shorts. The couple ran away from the store with an undisclosed sum of money. A 4-year-old child was killed and his mother and the driver were seriously injured in a traffic crash yesterday in Casco. The car was traveling west on Poland Spring Road and went out of control after passing another vehicle, crossed the center line and struck a pole, splitting the vehicle. (AP)

Car burglaries are spiking in Augusta. Police are looking for those responsible for breaking into a number of vehicles over the past two days and are urging residents to lock their car doors after the recent rash of burglaries. There have been a total of eight reports of car burglaries since Monday. (centralmaine.com)

Governor Paul LePage says he would use the Maine National Guard "if necessary" to help fight an epidemic of heroin and other drugs. LePage says has the authority to use the National Guard if the Legislature refuses to provide the resources he has sought. (AP)

The wife of a former state House member says she will run to fill the seat left open by her husband's death last month. Jean Noon says she wants to continue the work that her late husband, Democratic Representative Bill Noon, who been diagnosed with a rare type of t-cell lymphoma last year. (AP)

Independent Sen. Angus King and former Democratic Senate leader George Mitchell are hosting a forum to discuss the international nuclear deal with Iran. The forum is a week from tonight on Aug. 19, at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. (AP)

This week’s Perseid meteor shower could be one for the ages, that is if we get clearing skies. The annual shooting star spectacle will hit it's peak tonight into early tomorrow morning. For us, the most best time to view will likely be around 4 am.
