When I search for things to post about I usually go check the local newspapers, gossip sites like Pop Crush, TMZ or check this day in celebration, births and what happened on this date. This is one looking back on moment that I'm sure you''ll remember where you were when you got the news, if you're old enough to remember 27 years ago.

It was January 28th, 1986 and I was coming back from lunch in the 9th grade at my Jr High School when a friend of mine, John, asked if I had heard. I replied, "Heard about what?" He said the space shuttle Challenger exploded in mid-air. I shook my head in disbelief, thinking that's crazy. We were given 90 minute lunch breaks and many kids went home to eat. I was one of them. I watched TV but I must have watched 'Inspector Gadget' that day.  Now after researching, it happened at 12:38 pm ast, 11:38 pm est.

So back to to the subject, yes, back on this day in 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger lifted off from Cape Canaveral and 73 seconds into the flight broke it apart and all seven crew members died, including a teacher from New Hampshire, Christa McAuliffe.

I remember it well. It was a cold and clear day like today. I knew it was a weekday, after looking, I see that it happened on a Tuesday.

Ice and O-Rings were the cause of the shuttle's disaster. Very sad day in space exploration. May all rest in peace who perished on this day back in 1986.
