Cher could be returning to the small screen after a 40-year break since starring in the variety show ‘The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour’ alongside now-deceased hubby Sonny Bono. She just won’t have her original cheekbones this time around.

According to the Logo network’s Senior VP of Original Programming Brent Zacky (we’re told this is his real name), Cher will be working with her sometime boyfriend, writer/comedian Ron Zimmerman, who will pen the 1960s period drama.

The pair met on Facebook a couple years ago, proving that maybe all those lovelorn missives you’re sending to Ryan Gosling may someday pay off.

Said Zacky of the venture, “We came up with an idea set in Hollywood in the early ’60s, and we’re very excited to see how we get through the process. The deal is brand-new and we’re just getting started on the project.”

No word yet on if Cher will have an on-camera role, although if Logo wants the ratings, it really should consider it.

Cher’s new show will air alongside other new original programming, a first for the LGBT network, which until recently primarily featured any reality competition led by RuPaul along with gay-friendly movies and syndicated television shows like ‘Bewitched,’ ‘Nip/Tuck,’ ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ and ‘The Golden Girls.’

“We’re very carefully and hopefully diligently taking a few shots in this arena and we’ll see how it pans out,” said Zacky of the jump to original programming, adding, “We’re certainly excited to be in business with an icon like Cher, and Ron, who is a terrific writer.”

Logo also says it wouldn’t be opposed to working with Cher in an “unscripted” reality show format — which, judging by her Twitter feed, is something we’d totally watch.
