Christina Aguilera Style Breakdown – What’s Right, What’s Wrong + How to Fix It
Christina Aguilera emerged from a bit of a hiatus from ‘The Voice’ — she sat out Season 4 — looking her very best while promoting the upcoming fifth season in a blush micro mini by Alaia. She shed some excess baggage, ditched the ubiquitous crimson lips and wowed us. It inspired us to take a look back at her recent style.
Xtina isn’t afraid to go short with her hems, tight with her fabric or high with her heels. Like so.
But she doesn’t always choose wisely. She was busting out of this painted on purple mini, and she OD’ed on the self-tanner and/or bronzer.
Xtina’s black Parker LBD, studded Versace belt, platform stilettos and less-is-more makeup look –gone are the blood red lips in favor of softer pink gloss and “I just got off the beach” waves — were breathtaking. Her natural beauty was undeniable.
When the diva stepped out in a black Victoria Beckham gown for a TIME gala, she did so in Old Hollywood glam style. These are her signatures –va-va-voom red lips and extra-long lashes, teamed with a curve-hugging gown– and since she was so in shape, this look was divine. Like totally.
Even when Xtina goes casual, she does so in fashionable form. Her leggings and cropped leather jacket were classic pieces, but she kept her modern edge with purple tips in her platinum locks. Sexy! The sole complaint? She still overdid it with the bronzer. She was the color of a basketball.
While we love the Michelle-Pfeiffer-in-‘Scarface’ blunt bangs and bob, this swirly hued lavender dress by Pamela Rowland made her look dumpy and added/accentuated any unwanted pounds. It was too long, too drapey and too pleated for such a curvy gal.
This body-con dress, likely by Herve Leger, was too tight. Xtina was popping out all over the place. While we always suggest hugging those curves if you’ve got ’em, there is such a thing as crossing that line. She leapt over it here.
Oh, where do we begin? This outfit was a mess, from the star-print skinnies to the hot pink hair. It’s utterly clown-like for such a gorgeous girl. When you have bootay, stick with dark colors, not prints.
This clingy Michael Kors gown was too unforgiving. It also added those dreaded pounds. Those blingy shoes were aces, though.
How to Fix It:
Rocker chic works for Aguilera. When she dons cropped leather toppers and leggings, paired with heels or boots, and a rock tee, she is a winner. It’s also an easy look for her scores of fans to copy. This is always a right way to go.
We like this print maxi, and girls of any and all shapes can wear maxis-with-prints. We wish she had a little more support up top –hi, gravity!– but she did look cute here. She just has to play up her shape in the right ways.
When Xtina is in mom mode, comfort is key. But she still managed to rock cool layers.
