Yesterday, the joyous parade of ‘Community‘ creator Dan Harmon‘s season 5 return came to a screeching halt as word broke of the writer’s harsh and controversial words regarding his reception of the NBC comedy’s fourth season. Harmon almost immediately tweeted his apologies for the comments, but has once again gone to his personal blog for a much longer and involved apology.

Not only did Harmon apologize to fans of the series who became potentially alienated by the critical outburst, but also the cast, crew, writers, and any offended by his offensive speech. One comment that drew the most ire likened his experience of watching season 4 to “being held down and watching your family get raped at a beach.”

Interestingly, Harmon’s apology made little recant of his harsh words for Sony TV, whom he’d blamed for treating writers and creative types as replaceable in the manner that he himself had been supplanted with Moses Port and David Guarascio for ‘Community’ season 4. “The creatives are not the bad guys,” said Harmon among his apologies. “I shouldn’t be letting an inhuman system that doesn’t care about humans enough turn humans against humans. Especially us.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Harmon get in trouble for his public comments, only to offer up an apology over his personal blog, but with any luck Sony TV won’t take the matter any further out of Harmon’s ‘Community’ season 5 return.

The full text of Harmon’s apology is available at the link above, but what say you? Was Dan Harmon right to criticize ‘Community’ season 4 so aggressively, or has a whole new crap-storm opened up on the acclaimed NBC comedy?
