UPDATE: It turns out that the man in the photo with the Walmart sign isn't actually a Walmart employee at all, and the store had nothing to do with his decision to hold the "hiring" sign.According to a story in the Bangor Daily News, the photo, which has gone viral, is not something that was approved by the store.

In the BDN story,  a Walmart spokeswoman confirmed that the man with the Walmart sign had no connection with Walmart and added that Walmart did not condone the actions of the man with the hiring sign.

“The person in the photo is not a store associate,” said Walmart spokesperson Betsy Harden from company headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, in the BDN story. “We’re looking into the situation, looking into how the guy got the sign.”

Andrew LaVerdiere snapped this photo at Walmart in Brunswick, Maine. Panhandling has become a common thing on street corners in most towns in Maine. As a result, local police departments have issued warnings to the public about giving money to these folks.

I agree, jobs are available...unfortunately, people make more money panhandling. If you want to help homeless people consider donating to one of these places

Or pick a charity near to your heart and make a donation to them. Just use caution when you give money to someone holding a sign.
