Twenty-six thousand feet of copper power cords worth $40,000-$50,000 that ran power through Simard-Payne Park for the Great Falls Balloon Festival and Dempsey Challenge have been stolen.

Police are investigating the incident, which happened as far as festival organizers can tell in either late fall or early winter.

The cords were stored on spools and were taken along with outlet covers and other supplies from a storage trailer that the festival uses.

The location of the trailer has not been divulged so not to give away the location of other stored property necessary to make the festival happen.

Organizers are scrambling to figure out how to make the Great Falls Balloon Festival work this summer. There is a GoFundMe page set up for donations. This year's event is scheduled for, August 21st – August 23rd.

The event planners have liability insurance, but it won’t cover this theft.
