David Letterman went on 'Oprah: The Next Chapter' (because her final chapters will never be final) to talk about his affair scandal and his rivalry with fellow late-night talk show host Jay Leno.

When asked by Winfrey if there was still any bad blood between the two men over Leno being chosen as Johnny Carson's successor on 'The Tonight Show,' Dave started off by explaining, "We were always friends before all of this happened."

"He has a way ... he's an unusual fellow. I've never met anyone quite like Jay. And I will say — and I'm happy to say — that I think he is the funniest guy I've ever known,” Letterman praised his peer. “Just flat out, if you go to see him do his nightclub act, just the funniest, the smartest, a wonderful observationist and very appealing as a comic."

"Therefore, the fact that he is also maybe the most insecure person I have ever known ... I could never reconcile that."

The full interview will air on the Oprah Winfrey Network on Jan. 6. It's the second intimate sit-down that Letterman and Oprah have had in recent months -- he interviewed her in November. Guess they're trying to make up for all those years they didn't speak at all.
