Did She Really Throw Away a Good Kidney?

This almost seems like a scene from a mad cap movie like Airplane and it might be funny if it wasn't so very sad. A nurse at a hospital near Columbus Ohio accidentally took a living donor's good kidney, which was packed in a protective slush, removed it from the operating room, took it to a dirty utility room, and flushed it down the hopper.According to an article in the Star Telegram, he nurse said she didn't realize the kidney had been put into the sterile, semi-frozen solution because she'd been on break and a different nurse had taken her place.

It's a mystery how the nurse was able to walk the kidney past several members of the medical staff without them noticing a problem, according to a report.  As a result, the hospital's living donor kidney program has been suspended.

The hospital has not released how the intended recipient, who was suppose to receive a kidney from her brother, is doing.
