Did Wes Welker Intentionally Try To Injure The Patriots’ Aqib Talib?

Early in the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 19, the Patriots’ Aqib Talib was injured on a play involving former Patriots’ receiver Wes Welker, now playing for the Broncos.

Here’s a look at the hit, courtesy of the folks at Deadspin.

Here’s what Patriots’ Coach Bill Belichick had to say about the Welker hit on Talib according to a transcript of his Jan. 20 press conference on Patriots.com.

I was asked about the hit on [Aqib] Talib and I feel badly for Aqib the way that play turned out. I went back and watched it, which I didn’t have a chance to do yesterday. I think it was a deliberate play by the receiver to take out Aqib; no attempt to get open. I’ll let the league handle the discipline on that play; it’s not for me to decide, but it’s one of the worst plays I’ve seen. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

What do you think? Was the hit deliberate?>
