Did You Know The Presidential Election Was Today?
Don't let the title mislead you, even though it probably did. However, as part of a little throwback Thursday fun, I figured I would tease your brains a little bit. It was on this day
back in 1789 that the United Stated held it's first presidential election. Of course voting was a little bit different back then. Only white men who owned property were allowed to vote. Women, people of color and even the natives were absolutely banned from being part of the electoral process.
Of course as the history books will all tell us, George Washington was elected in the first election and was sworn into the office of President on April 30th, 1789.
We've certainly come a long way since then, both with our political system and voter's rights. It's a pretty interesting thing to look back and see how oppressed and discriminated against our own people were even just a few hundred years ago.
