Faster Internet Might Be Coming to Maine. I like the sound of that!

As of last month, the nationwide average download speed was 35.24 megabytes per second, and the average upload speed was 11.16 megabytes per second. All things considered, that's pretty good. At those speeds, you can stream Netflix, upload your latest selfies to Instagram, and snapchat all your friends, all at the same time and you probably wouldn't even notice a hiccup.

How does that compare to Maine? We are behind the rest of the country. According to Ookla, Mainers average only 17 megabytes per second down, and just 4 megabytes per second up. So. for example, we can't post as fast as our neighbors in New Hampshire.

The Portland Press Herald reported that there's a group of Mainers who are committed to bringing faster internet speeds to Vacationland, and it might happen sooner than you think. How do they want to pay for faster internet? A tax on cellphones.

See how you stack up against other users in Maine and around the country. Test your speed here.
