School's out for summer!!  And the summer food programs are getting started!

Seriously, being hungry is not fun and proper nutrition is important no matter your age.

According to Good Shepard Food Bank in our nation about 1 in every 4 children are food insecure. Maine is first in New England and 18th nationally in terms of child food insecurity. Food insecurity is a lack of access to healthy and affordable eats. And with school out for the summer, school breakfast and lunch programs kids may take part in are on hold because it is summer.

But there is still access to health meals for the kiddos. These nutritious free meals are available for children and teens 18 and younger at MANY locations throughout the Maine this summer while school is out of session. Many sites have fun activities planned including music, art, crafts and reading and all have trained adult supervision.

Check out the map of all the programs in Maine and around the nation.  They each offer slightly different programs and the map and locations will spell out exactly what is offered. Check it out and share the news!
