‘Friends’ Reunion Not Happening, Because of Course It Isn’t

Friends Reunion Rumor

Understandably, 2013 has become a banner year for TV reunion in that ‘Arrested Development‘ will finally dish out Netflix’s revival season on May 26, while even the dormant ‘Veronica Mars‘ got its act together for a fan-funded feature film, but the latest rumors have little merit, despite their long reach. Sources lacking credibility yesterday spread news of a ‘Friends’ reunion season, but despite the rumor’s prevalence, no such thing will likely ever take place. Find out why inside!

Nostalgia or other, we loved NBC’s iconic ‘Friends’ as much as the next site. That said, the idea of any kind of reunion seemed laughable for reasons beyond its A-list stars having better things to do these days. That didn’t stop “official” news of a reunion season from spreading in the past few days, after an Oklahoma radio station circulated the news.

Warner Bros., series stars and just about everyone with a basic understanding of the television industry quickly shot down the rumors, even as images and joke plots spread around the internet. Even then, ‘Friends’ left very little else to say after its 2004 ending, or at least very little to revive beyond basic nostalgia. “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what those characters are like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” Matt LeBlanc (Joey) told Entertainment Weekly in June 2012. “A couple of people will go, ‘That’s what I thought!’ but for the most part it’s going to let people down. It’s better to let them just think.”

Most recently, Courtney Cox and Matthew Perry reunited on NBC’s ‘Go On,’ the scope of which will likely prove the closest we get to a real ‘Friends’ reunion. You can check out the image that started the trouble below, and tell us if you’d really want a ‘Friends’ reunion in the comments!
