‘Frozen 2’ Star Kristen Bell Says She’s Recording Her Lines This Month
Disney took for-ev-er to announce a sequel to their wildly successful animated film Frozen. Since the film’s release in 2013, the studio has released one animated short, and announced plans for another along with a Broadway musical adaptation. It wasn’t until late last year that Disney officially confirmed plans for Frozen 2, and while we still don’t know exactly when we’ll get to see it, Kristen Bell reveals that production is beginning very, very, very soon.
How soon, exactly? In her chat with Collider, Bell says the cast is heading into the studio to record their lines this month. The way she explains it, the script was only recently completed, and with lengthy production times on animation, we still have a bit of a wait ahead of us:
Not yet. We’re just about to. They’ve just written it and they’re still doing tweaks, but I think we should be recording this month. The story is great, and they exude quality. What I know about that whole team is that they wouldn’t just put something out to put it out. That’s why it took them so long to even announce that we were doing a second one. Generally when you have a first successful movie you want to make a second one. It took them a while because they wanted to figure out what story they needed to tell and what would be important and engaging and I think they found it.
Bell voiced Anna, the young and rambunctious sister to Idina Menzel’s Elsa, who undergoes a powerful, icy transformation when she’s crowned as queen. Frozen’s success is owed not only to the fantastic songs by Robert Lopez and Kristina Anderson-Lopez, but the incredibly smart and layered script by co-director Jennifer Lee, which explores the female coming-of-age experience in really clever and thoughtful ways.
It makes sense, then, that it’s taken so long for Lee and co-director Chris Buck to find a story worthy of a sequel, and if Frozen 2 is anywhere near as good as its predecessor, we don’t mind the extended wait for its release.
Menzel is expected to return for the sequel, along with Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff. Disney has yet to announce a release date, but we can’t be too far off now.
