Gas prices in Maine jumped nearly three cents a gallon this week. MaineGasPrices.com reported that the average retail cost of a gallon of gas in Maine rose to $3.56. That's based on a survey of over 1,200 gas stations throughout the state.

New Hampshire has the lowest average gas price in New England with a price of $3.43 a gallon. That's followed by Massachusetts at $3.49 a gallon. Maine, Vermont and Rhode Island were all at $3.56 a gallon and Connecticut averages $3.68 a gallon.

Maine's gas prices are 24 cents higher than the national average. Wyoming has the lowest gas price in the United States at $2.82 a gallon and Hawaii has the most expensive gas prices at $4.05 per gallon.

The lowest gas prices in Maine were reported in South Berwick, near the New Hampshire border, at $3.35 per gallon.
