Gas prices in Maine and nationally have taken a sharp spike upward this week.

According to the price monitoring site Gas Buddy, the average price for a gallon of gas in Maine this week is $2.320, which is up nearly six cents from last weeks average price of $2..262 a gallon.

And nationally, the average price for a gallon of gas has shot upward, too. This weeks average price nationally is at $2.395, which is up nearly seven cents from last weeks average price of  $2.328.

We searched locally for the lowest gas prices in Central Maine.

In Augusta, the lowest places we could find for a gallon of gas were at the  Kenoco Station on Western Ave, the Mobil Station at 101 Bangor Street, and the Irving Station on the corner of Melville St and Western Avenue. All three reported selling gasoline at $2.27 a gallon.

In Waterville, the lowest price we could find for gas was at the Shell Station on Kennedy Memorial Drive, and J & S Oil on Kennedy Memorial Drive. Both are selling gas for $2.29 a gallon.
