I guess for me to write this and it to be understood this we have to define the label Generation X also called Gen X. Most say Gen X is collectively the children of Baby Boomers who were born between the mid 60s and early 80s which is the group I fall into.

You know this crossed my mind today. As the Baby Boomers retire, more and more "kids" my age are taking their positions in workplaces and businesses through out the country. What's funny is, this is the same generation who often referred to as spoiled. When I was growing up and figuring out real life in the early 90s, all we heard was Gen X is lazy, they’re slackers they’ll never amount to anything. It was partly media, partly Baby Boomers and partly movies and pop culture.

Fast forward from the early 90s to 2014, two decades, Gen Xers are in a lot of companies and running board rooms, making high level decisions and working their butts off. Most people I know my age aren’t lazy and idle today.

I think every generation blames the one before for making bad decisions and gets frustrated with the next generation coming along. The older generations feels the youth are reaping the rewards of the hard work done by those before. Do I think Millennials are lazy and entitled? At times, I know it isn’t true but just like our elders 20 years ago, assumptions were are and will be made. Maybe making fun of the youth is a little like a hazing before they get to this ugly environment we call responsible adulthood.

Strangely in many ways as progressive as our thinking was back in the 80s and 90s, we look somewhat conservative as a whole compared to how 18-30 years olds think in many ways today.

Just my take on life as a man in his early 40s.
