Back in 2013, Maine legislators passed a bill that would enact a Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) labeling law for food containing GMOs, but only if or when four other states in the northeast passed similar bills.

So far, only Vermont and Connecticut have done the same. Now Maine is still waiting on two more states, those being New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Maine Rep. Michelle Dunphy (D) wants to change the law to eliminate the need for other states to come along, so Maine can go-it alone and enact the law without being held hostage by Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The bill is being backed some Republicans as well.
