It’s “Throwback Thursday!” It’s now time for another story from my past. Today we’re going back to 1997. Yes it involves 92 Moose.

This was back when the Spice Girls and Hanson were ruling the radio and the top of the hour ID went, “Serving the universe……WMME,” etc. Remember ‘The Friday Night Party Zone’ ‘Hi 5 @ 9’ ‘Smash or Trash’ and ‘Moose Messages’?

In 1997 I worked part time at the station along with my other weekday job, Poore Simon’s. Poore Simon's is a clothing store which is now gone. That place as well was located at the Augusta Plaza.

We worked on air with reel to reel to record phone calls and still used carts (like 8 tracks) for certain things like the applause sound effect and other drops and audio accents. The board had knobs and not sliders like most do today. (all pictured)

Primarily my job was to come in every Sunday morning at 6 am and run a prerecorded and a few imported shows. The Sunday line-up started at 6 am with the Kennebec Valley Forum hosted by Renee Nelson, a show we still run under a different name today. It was our public service show or as I called it, The PSA Show. At 6:30 was ‘Powerline’ with Bother John Rivers, a somewhat religious show consisting of positive messages and music. At 7 am was ‘The Cut’ a show full of new music and then at 8 am was 'American Top 40 with Casey Kasem'.

After the morning programming done, it was 12 noon to 6 pm for me. Pictured here is an hour of music from that era. Today we don’t print them because our software now is much more detailed and user friendly.

A few names you may remember from that time, Big Jim Donavon, JJ Kelly and of course, Kramer.
