Vacation is over. The transition back to work after a vacation is always somewhat difficult for me because of being out of the loop. Don't get me wrong, it will be nice to get back on the air and talk to you and be with my co-workers.

My mother flew in for the week, so it was wonderful to have her here. We talk almost daily on the phone, but being with family from out-of-town is always better than calling them. Mom flew into Boston on Saturday morning (May 16). For fun, instead waking up at 5 am on the 16th and driving down we decided to stay overnight Friday (15th) at the Sheraton in Framingham, Mass.

The place looked like a castle from the outside and the pool was amazing. It was one of the largest indoor hotel pools I've seen. Of course, the kids had a blast in the pool. We were in the pool for most of Friday afternoon and Friday evening. The rooms were a bit small, but it was only for one night so we managed as a family of five.

Saturday morning we got up and were out of the hotel by 7:30 am to meet Mom at Logan. Mom came in on time, which is always a battle when it comes to meeting people at an airport. For a large part of Saturday, we walked through the Boston Common and Boston Public Gardens. We spent some time at the playground on the Common to let Vikki run around until 10 am when everything opened.  We took a ride on the swan boats in the Public Gardens. It was a very serene experience and very inexpensive considering you're in Boston.

We ate lunch at Fire & Ice and then drove back home to Auburn. The best part of that morning from a financial standpoint, we found on-street parking not once but twice.

Through the vacation week it was pretty low key. Vikki had her Pre-K registration, we took a trip to Freeport, we did some tooling around town, went on a trip to Fielder's Choice in Sabattus and dinner out on my Mom's birthday. It being a school week, it was hard to go anywhere far. Mom bonded with Vikki playing with her My Little Pony figures and other assorted toys and games.

Saturday, the boys were in the 'ROAR' marching band in the Memorial Day parade in Lewiston-Auburn. Of course cameras were out for that as well.

Sunday morning, I drove Mom back to Logan so she could get home.

It's always sad to see family leave but she'll be back in August with my sister and her son (cousin/nephew) so we'll look forward to that visit.
