Helen’s Restaurant in Machias Lost Due to Fire

Machias is a small college town in Downeast Maine. Right on Route 1 is the University of Maine at Machais (UMM) and right down the road from the school is Helen's restaurant or should I say, was Helen's.

Helen's, famous for their blueberry pies and I'd say bountiful breakfasts, burned down early this morning at about 1:45 am. No one was injured and there is so far no word on a cause.

When my sister in-law was going to UMM, we'd go up on family weekends, for ceremonies, etc. and while in Machias make time to hit Helen's for brunch!

It's sad to see them gone. Maybe they'll rebuild? I'm sure more this event will unfold in the hours and days to come.
