According to WGME, a weekend house fire in Sanford has displaced a 93 year old World War 2 veteran who is well known in the community.

Raymond Payeur is a lifelong Sanford resident who, during WW2, served his country as a sailor in the U. S. Navy

Fire officials say early Saturday morning a fire started inside of Payeur's house. It destroying decades of memories and memorabilia, something near and dear to the 93 year-old's heart.  One of those items was a wooden model of the USS Indianapolis that Payeur had carved.

Fortunately, he made it out safely.  His home, however, has been left uninhabitable.
