Gretchen Nickerson and Maureen Mahaney joined us on the Moose Morning Show to talk about the upcoming benefit for 'Get Austin Home.' It's Sunday, August 7, 1pm – 5pm at the Quarry Tap Room, Water Street in Hallowell.

Gretchen, a long time local teacher and last year's Kennebec County Teacher of the Year, has been dealing with a tragic car accident in Chicago in March' involving her son, Austin Sias.

Austin has been in four different hospitals in five months. He was transported to a level 1 trauma center where he was put in an induced coma for 3 weeks and stayed in ICU for 4 weeks. Austin was able to be transported to Mass General, at the families cost, where he received three surgeries.

The good news is that he is being discharged home on August 18th. He will be needing a wheelchair accessible bedroom and bathroom. In order to meet this need, the family needs to put an addition on their home.

You can support Austin and his family at the benefit. There will be a 50/50, auction items and $1 from every drink will go to Austin.
