In the past week there have been two major apartment complex fires in Lewiston engulfing seven buildings in total. Thankfully no one was hurt in either blaze, but there are many people without places to stay and many more with nothing but the clothes on their backs and whatever they grabbed on their way out of the building as it was going up in flames.  There are figures as high as 210 people homeless, but at the last news report I saw, they said 175 people were displaced. No matter which is accurate, that is huge number for the city.

"Stuff The Bus"

If you can help please do. On Sunday until 1pm,Hudson Bus Lines is taking non-perishable food items in their "Stuff The Bus For Lewiston Fire Victims" events. There are three buses at three locations this morning. The buses are at both Lewiston-Auburn Shaw's locations and one is set up at Wal-Mart in Auburn. Shaw's in Lewiston is located on East Ave. across from the Lewiston Mall and the Shaws in Auburn is on Center St. near the Auburn Mall. Wal-Mart in Auburn is located at 100 Mount Auburn Ave.

So if you're out grocery shopping, add a little more to the cart and help out if you can. The Salvation Army on Main St. in Lewiston is accepting furniture, clothes and monetary donations as is the YWCA on East Ave. in Lewiston, who in turn will give it those in need due to the fires.
