This morning I was on the phone with dealing with a technical support issue for a service I use. I will say they were very polite and my issue was resolved within five minutes but the "Mr. (last name)" has to go.

Maybe it's just me, but but I'd rather be addressed by my first name over "Mr. Michaels." I understand it is polite to address clients and customers using their last name, but it makes me feel old.

As much as addressing me by using my last name makes me feel awkward, what is even worse is when I get "sir" at a convenience store or while doing a transaction some other business where they don't know my name.

Depending on who says it, I don't mind "hun" or on the odd occasion, "sweetie." Which is odd because I know this term of endearment annoys many.

Short transactions without daily contact, a "thank you" or "have a nice day" will do it for me.

What are your feelings on this subject?
